This is strictly fan fiction.  It is in no way representative of the original show, and is not connected with Lorimar Studios in any way.  Also, on a personal note, my friend DallasFan has worked very hard on this, therefore I would appreciate if you would extend me the courtesy of not copying,  reproducing and/or representing it as your own.  Thanks.  I hope you enjoy reading.

Hi I decided to do a fanfic that involves mostly JR and Sue Ellen ,but in this story they have a daughter too. I have also decided to change the events a little bit and the year is 1990. Read the story and please let me know what you think!
Thanks and Enjoy!!

Dangerous Liaisons

September 16, 1990

“All passengers may now board flight 727 for departure.”

Jamie Ewing tossed back her long auburn hair and signed to the man who was standing near her.

“Well, I guess its goodbye, Uncle Bobby.”

“Don’t do this, Jamie. Everybody’s left Southfork and you’re the only one Christopher and I have left. You can’t leave Dallas, honey. It’s your home.”

“You mean it was my home, Uncle Bobby,” she replied, not hiding the slight contempt that was evident in her tone of voice. “It may have been once, but isn’t now...not after everything that’s happened.”

Bobby placed his hands on her shoulders, and gripped her firmly. “I know why you’re doing this, Jamie. I know you’re leaving Dallas because of him.” She could hear the anger rise in his voice, and in his eyes as well.

She struggled to fight back the tears that threatened to fall from her troubled green eyes, and shook her head.

“Don’t fight with me on this, Uncle bobby. I did what I swore that I would do. I have gotten my revenge, and took away the one thing that my daddy loved the most–Ewing Oil. After all that he’s done to me and my family, he deserved it. And now that my work here is done, I’m ready to leave Dallas. I can’t promise that I will ever return again Uncle Bobby, but maybe I will someday...when I am ready. But right now, I’m just too hurt and tired of all the pain daddy’s caused–not just for me, but for what he’s done to Mama and John Ross. That bastard drove everybody out of Southfork,” she replied bitterly.

Reluctantly, he nodded. “I know...he won’ ever change, and he’s a damn fool fo driving his own flesh and blood away.”

She shook her head sadly. You know, Uncle Bobby...for a long time, I wished you were my read daddy instead. You were always there for me whenever I needed you...and I won’t ever forge that.”

Bobby wrapped his arms around her tightly and kissed her forehead. He knew her well. Despite her confidence and bitterness, he knew that deep down she was still that vulnerable little girl from years ago. They heard the voice over the loudspeaker again, announcing that it was time for departure.

“I’ll tell the you send your love, ok? Tell Christopher that I love him, and that he can visit us anytime.” Bobby nodded, and she turned and headed to the airport terminal. She turned to look at Bobby one last time before boarding the plane. From a distance, he suddenly looked much older, and she could sense his sadness and heartbreak. He had never been the same since Aunt Pam mysteriously vanished a few years earlier, and the tragic death of his second wife, April, hand only changed him more.

Jamie pushed the thoughts out of her head as she sat down in her seat and buckled her seatbelt. She stared solemnly out the window, not bothering to listen to the flight attendants airline safety procedures and before she knew it, the plane had taken off.

Sighing, she sat back in her seat, recalling the events that had occurred over the years I her chaotic life. She was only eighteen, and yet she had been through so much, aside from being a heir to Ewing Oil. The ongoing animosity and bitter fights between her parents, her father’s infamous philandering, her mother’s alcoholism, the divorces, the custody fights over her and John Ross, her kidnaping, her pre-pubescent drug and alcohol abuse, her numerous affairs, Mama leaving Southfork and then John Ross-her brother...

And it was all because of Daddy. Damn him! Mama was a beautiful woman. Why of all the men in the world she could have had, did she have to fall in love with JR Ewing? He had put her through hell, and the ndid the same thing to his own children!

For as long as she could remember, their parents had been at each other’s throats. There were times when she could also remember how loving they were to one another, bu their reconciliations never lasted, and before long they would go back into the lying, cheating, and drinking schemes again. But she could never truly find it in her heart to blame her mama..not even when she shot Daddy. It had been mostly Daddy’s fault for all those things she did–her drinking and driving her out of Southfork for good.

With her family gone, her home didn’t feel like home anymore, and she sure wasn’t as hell going to live in the same house with Daddy. Besides, she missed Mama and John Ross. After all those months of scheming and finally succeeding in taking Ewing Oil away from Daddy, she was ready to leave and see them again. She hadn’t seen John Ross in five months, and Mama for nearly a year! Right now, London was the only place in the world where she wanted to be...away from Dallas, away from Southfork, and most of all, away from Daddy...

JR Ewing sat back in his chair, recalling the events that had occurred just earlier this morning. It was hard to believe that he had lost Ewing Oil, after running it all these years. Of all the people who had taken it away form him, it had been Jamie, his own daughter, his own flesh and blood. She had been working alongside that bastard Cliff Barnes–and gave Westar to him! Without Ewing Oil and Westar in his power, he was no longer the great JR Ewing. Instead, he was powerless, and along with that, he had lost his own family. As he sat there, her realized that for the first time, this great house, Southfork, his childhood home, his children’s home, seemed to be so empty, so quiet.

He reached for the bourbon and poured another drink. As he lifted the glass, his eyes drifted to the framed photo on his desk. It was a picture of Jamie and John Ross as very young children. Jamie had been about nine years old then, and she had her dark auburn hair down to her shoulders, with her arms around John Ross, who had only been two at the time. At that age, Jamie was already a striking beauty, having inherited Sue Ellen’s dark hair, her oval-shaped face, and her smile, but she still had those brilliant green eyes that mirrored his own. John Ross resembled JR more, but he had his mother’s hazel eyes. He looked harder at this picture. He hadn’t noticed it until now. Jamie had always appeared happy to him in it, but he could see now that behind that beautiful smile that her eyes were troubled.

Troubled , he thought again. Even then, Jamie had been unhappy...and he had been too damned selfish to realize it, until now.

His mind drifted back into the days past events...

* * *

Cliff banes threw his head back and laughed, facing his long-time enemy.

“After all these years, I finally have control of Westar and Ewing Oil. You really didn’t see it coming did you? I’ve finally brought the great JR Ewing down to his knees...and you’ve lost the one thing that you’ve craved the most: Ewing Oil.”

JR clenched his fists and glared at him in hatred. He looked like he was ready to kill him.. “Damn you, Barnes! I’m going to kill you for this!”

But Cliff hadn’t finished. He was just getting warmed up. It was all part of the plan. “Oh but that isn’t the best part. The best part is that I won with her help. I couldn’t have done it without her. She really is a clever girl.”

“What the hell are you talking about?” JR shot back.

At that moment, Jamie Ewing stepped in the office. JR’s face went from a look of hate to complete surprise. “I helped him Daddy.”

“What the–“

“I’m not finished, Daddy,” she said coldly, cutting him off. You see, this was all a part of my revenge, for all the pain you’ve caused.

Cliff chuckled. “I love this part,” he muttered.

“You see, I could never get around past you and take Ewing Oil without getting caught. So I used Dusty as a cover and got Cliff to be my silent partner. That way, I could take it all away from you right under your nose and you wouldn’t know what hit you.” she folded her arms and smiled with impish satisfaction. “And it worked.”
JR’s face went form a look of shock to an expression of hurt and betrayal. How could Jamie, his own daughter, do this to him? “Damn you, Jamie.”

“What’s wrong, Daddy? I’ve become exactly what you are–a true Ewing,” she replied bitterly. With that, he slapped her hard, so hard that it sent her reeling a few steps back and she covered her cheek with her hand. Reluctantly, she turned to face him again.

“I’m what you made me, and now you’re finally getting what you deserve after all the hell you put Mama and John Ross through.”

Hit by the painful reality of her words, JR’s face turned to sorrow. “Jamie, darlin’...” he reached out to embrace her, but she pushed him away, screaming.

“Don’t touch me! I hate you! I hate you for what you did! I hate you, Daddy, and I never want to see you again!” By now her face was streaming with tears, and before he could reach for her again, she ran out of the office.

Cliff felt the smiler slowly drain from his face. He had expected to stay happy throughout this whole ordeal, and bask in the glory of taking down JR, but after witnessing this scene, it suddenly wasn’t funny anymore He never truly realized how hurt Jamie had been after all these years, and seeing her face vividly reminded him of Sue Ellen. He remembered how much he had loved her once, and how she had turned to him for comfort when JR had rejected her so cruelly. She had been so lovely then, so beautiful...Hell, if he could have gone back in time, he would have taken her away right then and there, away from JR.

‘If only she’d married me instead of that bastard,’ he thought silently to himself. Jamie could have been my daughter..the child I never had.

He pushed the thoughts out of his head and looked at JR. “Well, you had it comin,’ JR. You pushed Sue Ellen out of your life, then John Ross, and now Jamie. The only person you ever gave a damn about was yourself and Ewing Oil, but now it’s not yours anymore, you’ve lost it all, and soon you’ll be headed straight to hell.”

JR ignored him and instead, faced the doorway where Jamie had been, and put on his hat. Seeing the look on her face hurt him.

He proceeded to leave, not saying a word or looking back, but before he could, Cliff spoke once again.

“I wish Jamie had been my child. I would have been a better father to her than you ever have been. If I had it my way then, I would have taken Sue Ellen away from you for good.”

Taking a deep breath, JR closed his eyes, and walked out the door, never looking back...

* * *
Sue Ellen. Cliff’s words had enraged him. Even now, after all these years, he felt his blood boil whenever he thought of Sue Ellen with Cliff. It had pained him when he discovered Sue Ellen’s affair with another man, especially his enemy. He had been so filled with jealousy and hate...she was his wife, only his.

Even then, their marriage had been falling apart, with him spending so much time away from home at the office and having affairs with other women. It wasn’t that he didn’t love Sue Ellen–he loved her more than anything, but he couldn’t help sensing that she wasn’t giving herself completely to him ,and that hurt. After all, she was his wife! With that, his hurt had turned to anger, and he turned his anger and frustrations to other women...but they didn’t have that effect on him the way Sue Ellen had–and still did.

Despite the years that had passed, he knew that deep down he was still in love with her. He wondered what her life was like now in England, being married to another man. Their marriage had ended more than two years ago, and he hadn’t seen her since, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t stop thinking bout her.

‘What a damn fool I was to let her go,’ JR thought miserably.

He heard the door slam behind him. Startled, he turned around, only to see his brother, Bobby, standing before him, looking like he was ready to kill him.

“Now do you see what you’ve done, JR? Jamie’s gone, and she’s never coming back.”

JR looked confused. “Gone? What do you mean gone?”

“I mean she’s left Dallas for good. She’s gone to England to be with Sue Ellen and John Ross.

JR was take aback. He couldn’t believe it. Sue Ellen was gone. John Ross was gone, and now Jamie. It was too much.

He shook his head. “It’s all gone isn’t it, Bobby? First my family, then losing Ewing Oil to Barnes. Dear God, what the hell was Jamie thinking...giving our company to that bastard? That was our daddy’s company, and he left it to us!”

Bobby sighed. He didn’t want JR to know too much, but he knew that he couldn’t keep it from him forever. JR would have found out sooner or later. Cliff had exaggerated somewhat. “Ewing Oil isn’t lost completely, JR.”

“What do you mean?” JR asked, looking puzzled.

“Cliff has Westar...but only ten percent of Ewing Oil. Thirty percent of it belongs to Jamie, and the rest belongs to me.”

JR’s eyes diverted away from Bobby’s. It was all beginning to make sense now. Cliff had some control over Ewing Oil, but he wasn’t powerful enough with only ten percent, and despite the fact that Jamie still had thirty percent, she was still young, and had yet to understand the true nature of the oil business. With her gone to England, it was left to Bobby to take her place in the business until she was a little older. He didn’t like the idea of Bobby having control over Ewing Oil, and God knew he despised Barnes, but clearly, all was not lost.

Bobby caught the mischievous glint in JR’s eyes. He sensed that his eldest brother was cooking up another one of his sick plans, but he wasn’t about to be fooled.

“I know what you’re thinking, JR. There’s nothing you can do to stop Cliff and me from running Ewing Oil. You have no control over it anymore, or Westar for that matter. So don’t even think about trying anything. It won’t work this time. Jamie and John Ross are away from here, away from you, so you can’t hurt them anymore.”

JR shot him a look of vehemence. “You can’t keep my children away from me, Bobby.”

“You’re damn right I will. You’ve put them through enough hell.”

“Daddy?” Christopher’s voice echoed from the hall, interrupting their argument.

“I mean what I say JR,” he said before turning around and heading out the door to find Christopher.

JR took his drink and finished it. He reached for the phone, picked up the receiver and dialed. After a few rings, a man with a gruff voice answered. “Hello?”

Hey, Alex. This is JR Ewing. I want you to do a little bit of diggin’ for me.”

“Yeah? On who?” he asked, his voice rising with excitement. He always loved doing JR’s dirty work. It made his job all the more exciting.

“I need you to find my wife–my ex-wife, actually,” he quickly corrected himself. “Her last names’s Lockwood. Sue Ellen Lockwood. All I know is that she lives somewhere in England. Find out everything you can. Find out where she lives, what she’s doing. Is that clear?”

“All right, Mr. Ewing.” he replied. “I’ll find out everything I can.” with that, JR hung up.

Jr looked at the picture frame again, grinning slyly. If he could track down Sue Ellen, he would do everything in his power to bring her back to Dallas, and get Lockwood of out the picture. If he did just that, their children would have no choice but to come back too. He also knew how vulnerable Jamie was now, and if he played the cards just right, he’d get that thirty percent of Ewing Oil back into his hands...

September 17, 1990

Sue Ellen Lockwood glanced at her watch. It was after midnight, and the plane had just landed. There was a crowd of people, and there was still no sign of Jamie. She was elated that her daughter was finally coming home to stay with them, and she hadn’t seen her in such a long time. They had so much catching up to do.

She looked around. Her thoughts drifted on John Ross. He had missed his sister so much, and he begged to come with her at the airport, but she wouldn’t have it. After all he was only a ten-year old boy, and she wouldn’t allow her son to stay up late at night when he had school tomorrow. She wished Don could have come, but he was away in Vienna for another movie production. The Marriage was becoming more difficult and trying that she had anticipated. As kind and loving as Don was, it wasn’t helping their relationship with him spending so much time away form home filming movies. The last time they saw each other was over a month ago. He had just returned from completing a movie in New Zealand, when three days later, he had to leave again for another project in Italy. So far, the movie project was going to take six, maybe eight months, to complete before he could return home again. With Don gone, it was easy to get lonely.

Suddenly, she caught sight of Jamie, and waved. Jamie waved back, and rushed towards her. The two women embraced each other tightly.

“I missed you, Mama,” Jamie said tearfully.

Sue Ellen sighed. Nothing felt better than having her daughter in her arms again. “Not as much as I’ve missed you, darling.” After a long moment, they pulled apart. Sue Ellen took Jamie’s hands into her own.

“Now let’s take you home. It’s late, and you need your rest.”

Jamie nodded. Then, a smile crept up on her face.

“What’s so funny?” Sue Ellen asked, smiling with amusement.

“I was just thinking about that–you taking me home with John Ross there. I have a feeling he hasn’t slept a wink knowing that I’m coming.”

Sue Ellen chuckled. “He wouldn’t stop begging me to let me take him to the airport. He’s so excited about seeing you again, but I reminded him that he had school tomorrow and that I wouldn’t allow him to stay up late. He was upset of course, but when I told him that he could look forward to seeing you in the morning, he felt better about it. I have a feeling you may be right though.”

Jamie laughed. “Well I am his big sister after all.”

Sue Ellen sighed and put her arm around her. “All right, my dear. Let’s get you home. It’s late, and I want you to get a good nights’ rest. We have so much catching up to do.”

Jamie nodded and together, they picked up her suitcase and proceeded to the elevator. They exited through the airport doors, where a taxi was waiting for them. It was a short, quiet ride, neither one of them saying much on the way home. The driver pulled up the hill, past the open gates and finally reached the driveway in front of the mansion. He helped them out of the car and got the suitcases out. Sue Ellen handed him the money and thanked him for his services. He bid them good night, pulled away and drove off.

Jamie couldn’t believe her eyes. The mansion was an ivory white two-story building with tall columns, the tops of which were shaped like inverted bells decorated with leaves. There were two galleries, an enormous one before the main entrance and another above it. Each hd a different decorative cast iron railing, the one on the bottom showing flowers and the one above, showing fruits. Jamie wanted to explore the rest of the house and the grounds, but it was late, and she was feeling a little tired. It had been a very long day for her, and she was ready to get some sleep. As they approached the large oaken doors, the butler greeted them, and took the suitcases and carried them upstairs. Jamie took a deep breath, taking in the new surroundings.

“Wow. Don’s really outdone himself, hasn’t he?” she said, looking around.

Sue Ellen smiled wistfully. “Yes he really has. Too bad he’s not around enough to enjoy it.”

Jamie frowned. You aren’t having problems with your marriage are you?” she asked. Mama had been through a lot–having another bad marriage was the last thing she needed.

She smiled and gently laid a hand on her shoulder. “Never mind. We’ll talk more in the morning. Let’s show you your room.”

Jamie couldn’t help but ponder as they ascended the long spiral staircase. Was there something that her mother wasn’t telling her? She felt that she was hiding something. Saying nothing, she followed her down the long hallway until Sue Ellen stopped at the last door on the right. She flicked the light switch on. The bedroom was even bigger than the one she had at home, with a queen size bed with a peach-colored quilt and canopy pots made of solid oak, a large dresser drawer with a full-view mirror next to it, and a wardrobe closer that looked big enough to fit in clothes for two people!

“Mama, you are spoiling me,” she said as she walked towards the bed and sat down.

She laughed. “Growing up in Southfork, you already are,” she replied jokingly.

Jamie lost her smile quickly. Hearing the name of the place she had grown up in was enough to upset her.

Realizing what she had said, Sue Ellen was about to apologize, when suddenly she heard John Ross come up from behind her.

“Jamie, you’re here!” he exclaimed. Seeing him made her smile again. She opened her arms out to him.

“Come here and give your sister a hug!”

He ran up and embraced her. They were finally together again. “I missed you!”

“I missed you too, little brother,” she replied lovingly.

“John Ross Ewing, what are you doing out of bed?” Sue Ellen admonished, her arms folded across her chest. She wanted to scold him, but she couldn’t help but smile at their little reunion. No matter how much hell she had been through with JR, she couldn’t say that she ever regretted marrying him. If she hadn’t, then she wouldn’t have been blessed with two beautiful children, whom she both loved dearly.

“Well, its’ time for bed you two.”

Jamie laughed, but John Ross frowned. “Mama can I sleep with Jamie tonight?”

Sue Ellen chuckled. “As long as it’s all right with your sister.”

“Fine by me. As long as you don’t hog the sheets,” she said, slapping his arm gently.

John Ross laughed, and pulled the blanket from under the pillow covers. He pulled the covers over and positioned himself so that he was in the middle of the bed.

“Hey, no fair!” Jamie protested, but she smiled nonetheless.

“Well good night you too. I expect you both to be sound asleep by the time I go to bed, which is now,” Sue Ellen said, eyeing them emphatically.

“Good night, Mama. I’m going to change my clothes now,” Jamie said as she proceeded towards the adjoining bathroom and closed the door. Sue Ellen walked to the bed and kissed John Ross on the forehead. “Good night, honey. Sweet dreams.”

“You too, Mama,” he said, and turned himself over so that he could close his eyes and drift off to sleep.

Sue Ellen smiled and turned off the light switch. She watched John Ros for a moment before closing the door behind her. He looked like a little angel when he was sleeping.

John Ross listened as he heard his mother’s footsteps become fainter and fainter as she walked further away, until it became quiet. He turned and looked at the bathroom door, and as he did, Jamie turned off the bathroom light and came out wearing a faded pink nightgown with long sleeves.

“Scoot over,” she whispered as she got under the covers. He moved away to give her some space. She pulled up the blankets and took John Ross’s hand in hers. “How have things been going here?”

John Ross shrugged. “Lonely I guess...Don’s not here much.”

Jamie nodded. “That’s what Mama said. Tell me the truth, John Ross. Is she happy here?”

He shook his head. “I don’t know...but she seems to be okay I guess.” Jamie sighed. She had the feeling that John Ross knew that their Mama wasn’t happy with Don, but she wouldn’t talk about it with him.

“You left Southfork, ‘cause of Daddy, didn’t you?” John Ross said, breaking the silence. She nodded slowly.

“I’m glad you did. I hate him,” he muttered angrily.

Jamie said nothing. Instead she put her arm around him. He wrapped his small arms around her neck. “I’m really glad you’re here, Jamie. Now we’re all together again...you, me and Mama,” he whispered before drifting off to sleep.

She stared at the ceiling, lost in her own thoughts. She knew that they shared a special relationship. Unlike other siblings, they rarely quarreled or fought with each other. Growing up in Southfork and having JR as their father, it was no wonder they did.

She felt her eyelids become heavier. She never realized how exhausted she was until now. Gradually, she let her es close and fell into a deep sleep.

* * *

Sue Ellen ran her fingers through her hair as she finished combing it. Now dressed in a long sleeveless nightgown, she shared at herself in the mirror. Even at forty-three, she was still a very attractive woman, with her auburn hair down to her shoulders, her deep-set hazel eyes, and her tall, lithe figure. She knew that men turned their heads whenever she walked down the streets of London, in stores, and other numerous places, but she never really cared or paid much attention. Being beautiful didn’t make life perfect. She learned that long ago.

Letting out a deep sigh, she turned off her nightlight and got into the large king-sized bed. It seemed so much larger with just her in it, and it made he feel terribly lonely. For years, she longed for companionship, longed for a husband who could be faithful to her, and only her, and someone with whom she could confide her feelings in. Clint may have been her first love when she was in college, but she didn’t feel that deep passion and connection with him in the way that she felt when she met JR. She had tried to find that companionship with JR when she married him... and it failed miserably, no mater how many times she had tried to make it work. Cliff had been her source of comfort at one time when her marriage was falling apart, and it had pained her when he realized that he valued his career more than his love for her. She thought she had found it with Dusty, but that just wasn’t meant to be. Nicholas had been a good man, and she thought she could have begun to live her life again with him, but he died. After him came Don, who had walked into her life like a prince charming. She had high hopes that they would start a new life together and help her move on, but it didn’t’ seem to be headed that way. They had only been married for barely two years, and already she sensed that their marriage was falling through the cracks. She rarely saw him anymore, and it was starting to seem like they were friends rather than husband and wife.

Her thoughts drifted back to Jamie. She wondered what it really was that made her leave Southfork, but so far, she wasn’t telling her anything. Whatever it was, she knew that JR had something to do with it. ‘Oh, JR,’ she thought deeply. ‘Why do you have to keep putting them through so much pain?’ John Ross was still a child, and she had been through so much...but with Jamie, it was different. The more she thought about her, the sadder she became. She was all gown up now, but Sue Ellen knew that deep down she was still that troubled little girl from years past. Nothing could be done to take away al those years of the pain and hurt she endured. She had grown up watching her parents rip at each other’s throats. In the long run, it had thrown Jamie into a world of turmoil. She had gotten out of it all right, but it didn’t erase the bitter feelings that she still harbored over the past. If only they had been more considerate of her and John Ross...especially JR.

JR. She had been thinking a lot about him lately, but she didn’t want to. They may have shared a past, they may have been married more than once, and they did have two wonderful children together, but that was all behind her. It was long ago, and her life had changed since their divorce She was stronger, more reserved. With that, her thoughts faded as her eyes closed and she fell into a long, deep sleep...

November 10, 1971

“It’s true, JR. They told me I’m pregnant,” Sue Ellen said, smiling. Words could not describe her happiness. It was finally happening! She was going to give him a child!

“Oh, Sue Ellen, that’s wonderful!” he exclaimed. His mile widened, and he took her into his arms. He held he for a long moment before pulling away so that he could look into her eyes. Those beautiful eyes.

Locked in a passionate embrace, their faces drew closer until his mouth was on hers. When they parted, Sue Ellen smiled and took his hand in hers. Not looking away, he watched her silently as he led him closer to their bed. He moved his hands to her waist and gently laid her down, and she sighed with pleasure as he positioned himself on top of her. Slowly, he planted soft kisses all over her face before taking her hands and folding them into his.

“I love you, Sue Ellen,” he whispered.

Sue Ellen’s eyes snapped open. It was so odd that she had that dream! It was a memory really. Nineteen years ago, when she discovered she was pregnant, she was overjoyed, having been able to give JR a child and finally fulfilling her duties to him as a wife by producing a Ewing heir. It was what he wanted, and he had wanted to be the first to give Jock a grandchild...or a grandson for that matter.

She recalled the look of disappointment she had seen on his face when they learned that she had given birth to a girl and not a boy. That was the start of many problems that put a strain in their ten-year marriage, all because Jamie was a girl and not a boy. Imagine that–having children was supposed to make a husband and wife happy, but instead it did the complete opposite. The look on JR’s face and his reaction caused her untold pain, not just for herself, but for their newborn daughter as well. Poor Jamie! She was just a baby then, and already her father didn’t want her because he wanted a son instead. Not long after that, he helped himself back into bed with his secretary and old flame Julie Grey. She felt a surge of anger rise inside her. The memory and knowledge of that brought back those old feelings of hatred...and pain.

July 28, 1972

“Congratulations, Mr. Ewing. Your wife’s just had a healthy baby girl,” the doctor said as she came out of the delivery rom. Jock, Mis Ellie, and Bobby were all standing there, looking happy. JR, on the other hand, looked disappointed. It wasn’t a boy, and that was what he wanted. If she had given him a boy, then he would have finally been able to give Daddy a grandson, something that Bobby couldn’t give, and then maybe, just maybe Daddy would have given him another chance and look at him in a whole different way. If Sue Ellen had given him a son, then he could have become Daddy’s favorite instead of Bobby, but that didn’t happen. Damn it, why did the baby have to be a girl?

Instead, JR pushed the thoughts out of his head and tried to hide his disappointment with a smile. “Great,” he said. “Can I go in to see my wife now?”

The doctor nodded. “Sue you can. “She’s very weak right now, but she’ll be better in a few days. For the time being, she needs to stay in the hospital until she recuperates.”

“I’m happy for you, JR,” Bobby called out from behind him. JR turned and smiled.

“Is she in the nursery right now?” Mis Ellie asked.

“Yes, we’ve just placed her in a few minutes ago. Mr. Ewing,” he said, turning to JR. “Have you thought of a name yet?”

JR gave him a slight nod. The baby may be a girl, but he wanted her to have a name that connected to his own–a name with the same initials as his. After all, he was her father, and he wanted to make that known to everybody in Dallas that knew him

“Jamie,” he replied. “Jamie Rachel.”

Miss Ellie smiled. “That’s a lovely name, JR.” She turned to face the doctor. “May we see her now?”

“Absolutely. Nurse Dutton will escort you,” he said to the woman standing next to him.

“This way,” she said with a smile, and they followed her. As they departed, JR turned around and opened the door. He saw Sue Ellen laying in bed, looking weak and physically exhausted. When she saw him, she struggled to sit up, but she was still too tired.

“Easy,” he said as he approached the bed. He pulled up a chair the chair closer to the ed and sat down, taking her hands in his. He struggled to smile at her, but he couldn’t fool her. She could see the disappointment in his eyes. Seeing that look brought tears to her eyes.

“You’re disappointed, aren’t you? It’s because the baby’s a girl.” He let go of her hand and looked away for a moment. Nobody could read him better than Sue Ellen.

“You know we can try again, JR. They told me I can still have more children,” she said, trying to touch his hand, but he pulled away from her.

“Maybe so, but it’s too late to do anything about it. I wanted our first child to be a boy, but that wasn’t meant to be, was it?”

“JR–“ she pleaded, but before she could continue, he got up from the chair and prepared to leave.

“I’ll be back tomorrow. Everybody’s down at the nursery. The doctor said you can bring her home when you’re feeling better.” With that, he closed the door behind him and left, not even bothering to tell her the name he had chosen for their infant daughter.

Sue Ellen buried her face in her hands, sobbing quietly. Not matter how hard she tried, she just wasn’t good enough for him...

Sue Ellen sat up from her bed, and glanced at the clock. It was 6:30, and today was the 17th. She smiled ruefully. It had been eighteen years and two months since it happened. But she still remembered it vividly. She also recalled how Bobby had brought in little Jamie and placed her in her arms. She would never forge that feeling of holding her for the first time. She had been so tiny, so perfect. Mis Ellie and Jock were happy enough, but Bobby looked even happier, acting as if he were Jamie’s father instead of her uncle. She remembered how he had held her in his arms and looked down on her with such a love in his eyes that it made her smile through her tears. He even drove her home and helped her with little Jamie into the nursery when JR couldn’t make it because of some so-called “unfinished business” at Ewing Oil. It didn’t take long for her to discover what that “unfinished business” was.

She smiled when she thought about Bobby. He was a good man, and even after all these years, it was sometimes hard to believe that he was JR’s brother. They were exact opposites There were times in the pat when she often wondered what her life would have been life if she had married Bobby and not JR. He was such a good man, and why Pam just disappeared like that she would never understand, but she knew all too well the pain that JR had put her through.

She shook the thoughts out of her head and got up. Today was a new day, and she was going to spend it with Jamie while John Ross was in school..that is if she could get him out of bed. Sue Ellen chuckled quietly to herself, and headed to the adjoining bathroom to take a shower. When she was finished, she combed her hair and dressed herself in a creme-colored blouse and combined it with a matching skirt. Next ,she took out a pearl necklace from her jewelry box, which Don had given her and put it around her neck before fixing he hair and face. Looking refreshed, she walked out of the bedroom and headed to Jamie’s room.

Jamie rolled over sleepily, burying her hands under the soft pillows. John Ross remained sound asleep, his right arm hung over on Jamie’s side, breathing softly. Sue Ellen slowly turned the knob and opened the door. She smiled when she saw them sleeping. They looked so peaceful that she almost hated the thought of waking them up, but she had to.

“All right, my darlings, wake up. We’ve go a bright new day ahead of us,” she declared, folding her arms across her chest.

Jamie and John Ross stirred at the sound of her voice. John Ross turned over and Jamie pulled up the covers higher. “Wake us up in another hour, Mama. We’re too tired,” she said sleepily.

“I don’t think so,” Sue Ellen said, approaching the bed. She pulled the covers away from them, much to their protest.

“Why do I have to get up so early? I don’t go to school anymore,” Jamie whined

John Ross sat up groggily. “Why do I have to go to school today? One day can’t hurt, Mama.”

Sue Ellen laughed and ran her fingers through his hair. “Your education is important John Ross, and I don’t want you to miss school. Come on, why don’t you go to your room and get dressed? I’ll have breakfast ready before you go to school.” Reluctantly, he got out of the bed and headed out the door. “And you, my dear,” she said, turning to Jamie. “You and I have a lot of catching up to do. You’ve been away fro me for too long, and I don’t get enough out of you through all those phone conversations we’ve had. It’s time we had one of our real talks.”

Jamie looked at her sadly. “I know, mama. There are a lot of things I haven’t told you yet, and I’ve been going though a lot lately.”

Sue Ellen placed a hand on hers. “I know you have honey. I think it’s time you told me what it is. Why don’t you get dressed and we’ll talk about it after breakfast?” Jamie nodded.

“Yes, mama,” she said. Sue Ellen gave her a kiss on the cheek and headed downstairs.

Nobody said much during breakfast, and John Ross complained about not wanting to go to school again. Jamie laughed. “All right, John Ross, why don’t you stop complaining? If you do, then I’ll pick you up when you get out and you can show me around the house. Deal?”

John Ross grinned. “Sure!”

Theresa, the maid, came out, interrupting their conversation. “Sorry to interrupt, Ms. Lockwood, but it’s time for me to drive John Ross down to school.”

Sue Ellen nodded and looked at John Ross. He got up and gave them both a hug before leaving the room with the maid. She turned to Jamie. “Now we’re alone. Tell me everything, Jamie.” Reluctantly, Jamie looked up so that her eyes met hers.

“All right,” she said. “There’s a lot I have to tell you, but first you need to know something.”

“What?”

She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath before speaking again. This was going to be a big one.

“I’m pregnant.”

Sue Ellen’s eyes widened. Pregnant? She couldn’t believe it!

She put her hand on hers. “Oh, Jamie...that’s wonderful, but you’re still so young...barely eighteen! Are you sure you’re ready to be a parent?”

Tears formed in Jamie’s eyes. She didn’t know how she was going to be able to tell her this part. “I don’t know, Mama. I don’t know if–“ she paused momentarily, unable to continue.

“Don’t know if what? Jamie, honey, I’m your mother. You can tell me anything.”

A lone tear fell down her cheek. She was really going to break down on this one. “I don’t know if I can have this child, Mama...I don’t know who the father of my child is.”

Tears formed in Sue Ellen’s eyes. It pained her to see what Jamie was going through–it was exact same thing that she had experienced over ten years ago, when she was pregnant with John Ross.

“Oh darling, I’m so sorry,” she said, and embraced her. Jamie was crying now. What she had just told her was only the beginning–the next part was going to be even worse.

Sue Ellen didn’t want to press her anymore, but she had to ask, “Who are they?”

Jamie swallowed hard. “One of them...is Tommy McKay.”

Sue Ellen nodded. “And the other?” Jamie didn’t respond.

“Jamie? Darling, please tell me. Don’t hold anything back.”

She began to sob. “Oh, Mama...”

She pulled her away from their embrace so that they were facing each other. “Tell me.”

The tears were steadily overflowing down to her cheeks now. There was no easy way to say it.

“James Beaumont.”

Sue Ellen stifled a sob. “Oh Jamie...I’m so sorry.” She took her in her arms again, and Jamie cried softly.

“I really loved him, Mama. We were so in love with each other, and he wanted to marry me...until he discovered that he was my half-brother. I don’t know what to do, Mama.”

“Oh, damn you, JR. How could you do this to our little girl?” she whispered softly.

“What was that, Mama?” Jamie asked, sniffling.

Sue Ellen said nothing. Instead, she kissed her forehead and held her tightly.

July 28, 1972

JR walked out of the hospital where Sue Ellen was. He felt so guilty for walking out on her like he did. He wanted to tell her that it wasn’t her fault, and that he knew that she had tried. She was such a loving woman, and it touched him to know that she was willing to give him more children, but eh couldn’t handle the disappointment of having a girl. He wanted to make his Daddy proud by giving him a grandson, something Bobby couldn’t give right now, but that didn’t happen. Oh, it wasn’t that he blamed Sue Ellen–he loved her so, but he couldn’t be with her right now. He had to get away.

He walked down the hospital hallway, where he saw Jock, Miss Ellie, and Bobby looking in the nursery window. Their faces were filled with joy. He didn’t want to deal with the embarrassment, but he had to keep his image and make himself look like a loving parent. Planting a false smile on his face, he greeted them.

“Which one of them’s mine? I haven’t seen her yet.”

“The nurse is bringing her out right now,” Miss Ellie said. “Oh, JR, wait until you see her. She’s such a beautiful baby.”

The nurse came out of the nursery ward, holding the tiny infant in her arms. She was crying loudly. “Which one of you is the father?” she asked, looking at Bobby and JR.

“I am,” JR replied.

The nurse approached him and handed the baby in his arms, which he didn’t expect her to do. He didn’t want to take the child, but he didn’t have a choice. Immediately, her crying subsided. The nurse smiled. “Well, clearly she knows who her father is,” she said and headed back into the nursery.

JR looked down at her. He felt a surge of love and emotion as he studied his infant daughter. Mama was right .She was a beautiful baby. Her eyes were still closed, but she was so small. Her hands and feet were tiny and perfect, and she had Sue Ellen’s beautiful complexion. He held her for the longest time, forgetting his family was there, surrounding him as they looked down at little Jamie.

“Can I hold her?” Miss Ellie asked him, finally breaking him away from his thoughts. Suddenly realizing what he was doing, he pulled himself together and handed her to Miss Ellie. He didn’t want them to see the softer side of him, especially Daddy.

Bobby laid a hand on JR’s shoulder. “Well now I have anther niece to look after besides Lucy,” he said with as mile.

JR chuckled. “Heh heh. Well you can’t forget Sue Ellen, bobby. Now that she’s a mother, she can keep herself preoccupied while I’m gone. Peaking of that,” he said, putting his hat back on. “I’ve gotta get back to the office. Can’t keep those meetings waiting.”

Bobby’s smile faded. He couldn’t believe JR’s comment on Sue Ellen, and he knew that there was much more that meetings at the office. H e just had a baby, and all he could think about was their Daddy’s secretary. ‘Don’t Jamie and Sue Ellen mean anything to you, JR?’ he thought angrily.

“ I won’t be home for dinner, so don’t wait up for me.” Miss Ellie looked disappointed but she didn’t say anything. Jock nodded with understanding.

“You do that. We’ll keep an eye on Jamie and Sue Ellen for you.” JR nodded and walked away. He headed outside of the hospital doors, got in his BMW and drove. He just had to get away from it all. It was too overwhelming for him with all those emotions he was feeling.

Jule was busily Xeroxing files and sorting through the mail when JR walked in. “Hello, darlin,’ he said, putting on his infamous grin. “Keeping yourself busy?” he asked as he snuck up behind her and put his arms on her waist.

“What kept you?” She asked, her back still turned.

“I was just at the hospital. It was a girl,” he said, trying to sound nonchalant about it.

“Oh,” she said, with disappointment. Jr had met her before he met Sue Ellen. Why didn’t he marry her instead?

Hearing the tone of her voice, he kissed the back of her neck. “Don’t be like that, honey. She means nothing to me compared to you. You can’t imagine how much she disappointed me–I got a girl instead of a boy.”

Julie frowned. Even she had to pity Sue Ellen with the comment he just made, but despite the fact that she’d been his mistress for the last four years, she was already beginning to see through him. Sure, she was more of a wife and confidante to him than Sue Ellen, but it didn’t mean he’d ever stop loving her. In fact she was starting to realize that the more he said harsh things about Sue Ellen, the more she could see how he was so affected by her. She wasn’t good in bed, so that made him criticize her. She gave him a girl instead of a boy, so he criticized her even more, but she could still see the love in his eyes whenever he talked about Sue Ellen. Even the sound of her name was enough to get his attention. She turned around and smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck. He pulled her into a kiss, and once again, she felt her resistance crumbling. No matter how hard she tried, she still loved him, even through she knew what a heartless bastard he could be...

JR stirred in bed as he woke up from his dream. He remembered how he had rejected Jamie at first, but after holding her in his arms, he realized how much he had come to love his own child. He regretted treating sue Ellen that way-she was a good wife then, and he was already cheating on her with Julie Grey. True, she was more of a wife and confidante to him than Sue Ellen was at first, but it was only because he couldn’t reach out to Sue Ellen in the way that he wanted to. He wanted her love completely, but he felt that something was holding her back, and that hurt him, so finding another woman seemed to be the only solution. In the end, however, he realized how much he had been jeopardizing their marriage, especially when he drove her into Cliff’s arms. It had angered him when she had finally gotten pregnant again after seven years, and not knowing if the child was his or Cliffs. When the paternity test revealed that John Ross was his son and not Cliffs’, he was more than overjoyed. Having a son, along with a daughter, made him feel like the happiest man in the world.

He recalled their night of passionate lovemaking before he let on a business trip with Bobby and had gotten into that awful plane crash. The way the consumed their love for each other, it was no wonder she had gotten pregnant. He smiled, and his mind drifted off into the past once again...

March 3, 1979

“Come to bed with me,” JR said, wrapping his arms around Sue Ellen’s waist. “I haven’t enjoyed you all week.” his words angered her. She was his wife, and all he wanted was to sleep with her because Julie wasn’t there anymore to satisfy his desires.

“Oh, go to hell, JR!” she struggled to fight him off by pushing him away from her, but he only tightened his grip. He was too strong.

“Don’t fight me, darlin’. You’re my wife.” he proceeded to kiss her when she spoke again.

“Of course I’m your wife, JR, but I’m not good enough for you, am I?” she burst into tears. JR loosened his grip on her and touched her face.

“Don’t do this, Sue Ellen. You know I love you. Those other women don’t mean a damn thing to me, not even Julie Grey.” He placed his hands on her shoulders, but she clenched her hands into fists and pounded weakly on his chest, trying to get him to pull away. Instead, he pulled her face to his and kissed her hard. She wanted to scream at him, slap him, and tell him that he couldn’t have his way with her, but instead, she found herself responding to his kiss. She wrapped her arms around him, and let him work his way down her neck. Sighing with pleasure, he breathed in the scent of her soft hair, and whispered, “You’ll always be my Yellow Rose of Texas, Sue Ellen.”

He continued to kiss her, and she found herself succumbing to him completely as he pulled the strings of her robe, letting it fall to the floor. They both said nothing as they continued to exchange passionate kisses, and fell back on the bed together, making love...

The next morning, JR woke up with Sue Ellen’s body next to his, resting her arm lovingly on his chest. He wanted to take her in his arms again and wake her up with a kiss, but he didn’t. Instead, he carefully got out of bed without waking her up, got dressed, and left for his business trip.

JR turned to look at the dresser drawer that was across the bed. He thought of something, and got up. He pulled the dresser drawer open and fumbled through his things. He reached out toe the bottom and felt the hard object that he was looking for. He pulled it out, and observed the old framed photo of his first wedding to Sue Ellen. She looked so beautiful then in that wedding dress...so beautiful that she took his breath away when she walked down the aisle to take his hand. He remembered how elated he had been when they exchanged their vows. Words couldn’t describe the happiness he felt that day..he was married to the most beautiful woman in Texas, the lovely Sue Ellen.

‘My Sue Ellen,’ he thought. ‘My Yellow Rose of Texas.’ He remembered his marriage to Cally. What a mistake it was marrying her. He thought that he could move on with her–after all she was young, fresh and sweet, and he was smitten with her at one point, but eventually he grew tired of her just like the others and was only too happy to divorce her. Getting out of that damned sanitarium meant more to him than she did. She just couldn’t take Sue Ellen’s place-and the same was true of his former fiancee Vanessa Beaumont. She was his first love alright, but he didn’t feel that deep love with her in the way that he felt for Sue Ellen. They had been engaged earlier this year, but only briefly, and she left again for Europe...which was the way it should be. Even though he hated Hillary Taylor, he had her to thank for that. Marrying Vanessa would only have been another mistake–just like Cally.

As he stared at the phot, he took his hand to touch Sue Ellen’s youthful face. It hadn’t really occurred to him until now that she was the only woman that he’d ever been with the longest. “It’s been too long, Sue Ellen. From now on, I’m going to do whatever it takes to bring you back to me.” He smiled mischievously. “Starting with our Jamie.” He loved Jamie dearly, and even though she angered him by taking Ewing Oil away from him, he was willing to put that aside. However, he was still her Daddy, and it was time he reminded her of that...

September 17, 1990

James Beaumont picked up his glass and drank. He felt the burning sensation of the cognac as he swallowed it. The last year or so had been hellish, and after what he discovered about little Jimmy and himself. Things weren’t getting any better. A month and a half ago Jimmy had been diagnosed with a rare form of blood disease that required a blood transfusion. He had been so afraid for his son and his life was in danger. However, when he fount out from the doctors that his blood didn’t match little Jimmy’s, he realized that Debra Lyn had lied to him all along. Jimmy wasn’t his son. Outraged and heartbroken, he contacted his lawyer and ordered him to serve Debra Lyn with divorce papers. Debra Lyn had been hesitant about it at first, but she gave in and went ahead with it.

He poured another drink for himself. After Debra Lyn signed the papers, he went to say goodbye to Jimmy at the hospital, who had already began to recuperate from his mother’s blood, but he was already gone. Debra Lyn had taken little Jimmy with her and left. He had no idea where she went, but no matter how upset he was, he realized it was better for him and everyone involved not to pursue her. He never wanted to see Debra Lyn again and as much as it hurt him, he also knew deep down that it was best that Jimmy never saw him again. Letting the boy go on thinking that he was his father would be living a lie, and he had enough of lies.

After a few weeks, he moved out of his apartment back east, and returned to Europe to visit his mother. When he told her of his recent tragedy, she broke down and confessed to him about who he really was. Having his own wife lie to him about Jimmy’s paternity was horrible, but after what his own mother had revealed, it was even worse. Out of all the people he had known his whole life, his mother was the only one he had really trusted.

July 8, 1990

Vanessa put her arms around him. “Oh, James, I’m so sorry,” she said, sobbing.

James let her hold him. Right now, he wanted her love and comfort. “It really hurt me, Mother–how could he just lie to me and tell me that Jimmy was mine? I loved him, and she took him from me.”

Vanessa wiped the tears from her eyes. This whole thing was her fault. If she had been honest with him in the first place, then maybe none of this would have ever happened. Her lies had come back to haunt her, and this time it got to James. Her son was being punished for her past in the cruelest way.

“James, this is all my fault. I should have told you a long time ago, and I didn’t.”

James pulled away from her embrace and looked at her, very puzzled. “Told me what?”

“About you.” She put her hands to her face, trying to quiet her sobs.

He gripped his hands on her arms. “Mother, what are you saying?”

“I lied to you.”

James shook his head. “I don’t understand.”

She rose from the couch and walked to her desk drawer. She took out the key from under the cabinet and unlocked the second drawer, reaching for something. She pulled out a piece of paper, which looked somewhat yellowed with age and handed it to him.

Before he looked at it, he stared at her. Why was she behaving so strangely? “Mother what is this?” he asked.

“It’s something I should have showed it to you a long time ago. Just look at it.”

He looked down at the paper. As he read over its contents, his eyes widened.

James Richard Beaumont b. December 8, 1966

Place of Birth: Canterbury, England

Mother: Vanessa Beaumont

Father: Naldo Marchetta

James couldn’t believe what he had just read. “Mother, what is the meaning of this?” he asked angrily.

I’m sorry James. What I did was wrong, and I’ll never forgive myself for it. JR was never your real father, and there’s no way he could possibly be.”

James shook his head in disbelief. “I don’t believe this.”

“Believe it, James. Twenty-five years ago, I had an affair with JR, which you already know. He was my first love, and he broke my heart when I found out he was seeing another woman. I told him I never wanted to see him again and we ended the relationship. Two months later, I met Naldo, and I fell in love with him. I thought he was a good man, but he wasn’t...so I left him. A few months after that, I found out that I was pregnant with you, and you came along months alter. I didn’t want Naldo to know about you because he was a dangerous man and I wanted to protect you, so I thought it best to keep it a secret.”

A pained expression fell on James face. To have his own mother lie to him like this all his life...it was the worse sense of betrayal that he’d ever experienced. It was even worse than when he uncovered the truth about little Jimmy.

“I’m truly sorry, James. I wanted to tell you when you moved to Dallas, but I knew how much you wanted to have a father in your life so badly, and that made it so difficult for me to tell you. And then when I came to look for you, I found myself falling in love with JR all over again...so I told you and everyone else that he was your father. I really thought he had changed, but he didn’t. He put us through a lot of pain and hurt and I didn’t want you to be hurt anymore than you already were, so I thought it best that you never knew.”

James curled his hand into a fist. “How do I know you’re telling the truth, Mother? This paper could be a forgery for all I know.”

she shook her head. “It’s not. Honestly,” she replied, looking at him straight in the eye. If you don’t believe me, then that’s all right. You can take a paternity test, but the fact remains: JR is not your father. He never was.”

He threw the paper on the floor and buried his face in his hands. He felt his mother reach out to touch him on the shoulder and he brushed her off coldly. Then, he stood up.

“Of all the people in this world, you were all I had, Mother, and you betrayed me.”

Vanessa looked hurt. “James–“ she pleaded, but he picked up his coat and headed for the door.

“I can’t even look at you,” he said and left.

His mind drifted back to the present. She hadn’t been lying after all. Shortly after that, he checked into a local hospital for a paternity test, and the records came up proving that there was no way in the world that he could be JR’s son. Part of him felt hurt knowing that he was without a father again–everybody in Europe knew about the infamous Italian count Naldo Marchetta...except for James. He would never have the opportunity to meet Naldo...he had died a few years ago under mysterious circumstances. The thought saddened him, but there was another part of him that was relieved with the fact that he wasn’t JR’s son. JR was a bastard, taking advantage of Cally the way he did, and the way he treated Jamie and John Ross. At the end, when he left, he wished he had never met him.

He sighed when he thought about Cally. When he left his mother, he returned to the States and stopped in Florida to visit Cally again. Her heart had went out to him when he told her about little Jimmy and Naldo, but it pained him even more when she told him that she lost the baby. Cally was a good woman. She would have been a good mother, but that wasn’t going to happen. In spite of that tragedy, Cally accepted it. “It’s all right, James, she had told him. “At least I can take comfort in knowing that part of my life is over. I want to forget I was ever married to JR and I want to forget the life I lived in Dallas.” She had also told him how successful her paintings had become, and that she was seeing another man, which made him happy for her.

His mind drifted onto thoughts about Jamie. He wasn’t her half-brother, fortunately, but their parting hadn’t been a good one. There had been so much bitterness, animosity, and hate going on. He knew he still loved Jamie, but it didn’t erase the fact that she was still JR’s daughter, and she shocked him when she revealed another side of her–she was a lot of things, but innocence sure as hell wasn’t one of them. She had so much of JR in her, and he hated that. Still, he couldn’t help himself when he thought about her. The attraction he felt for her lingered, and it was becoming more apparent to him–especially since the whole thing with his mother and little Jimmy.

He placed the glass down and put on his jacket, picking up his pane tickets and suitcase on his way out. Whatever happened between him and Jamie, he knew it wasn’t over, and it was time for him to go back to Dallas. More importantly, it was time that everyone knew the truth about him–especially Jamie.

And he sure as hell wasn’t going to let the great JR Ewing get in his way this time..

Sue Ellen and Jamie walked together down the street, browsing the department stores as they passed them. It had been hours since Jamie told Sue Ellen the shocking news about her pregnancy, and Sue Ellen tried to cheer her up by suggesting that they go shopping, but so far, it didn’t seem to be helping much. She had the feeling that there was so much more Jamie hadn’t told her, and she was determined to find out just what it was. She placed her arm around Jamie, and she looked up at her.

“Jamie, how about we have some lunch? Let’s go to Le Chateau’s and we can chat some more.”

Jamie planted a false smile on her face, trying to look happy, but Sue Ellen wasn’t fooled. “I’d like that, Mama.”

“Table for two, please,” Sue Ellen said to the hostess as they entered the restaurant. The hostess nodded, took out two menus and seated them at their table. A waiter greeted them and asked them what they wanted to drink. Sue Ellen ordered coffee for them, and eyed Jamie when they were left alone once again.

“So, tell me more about this takeover scheme you planned. I don’t like that you got yourself involved in those shady business dealings, Jamie, especially with your pregnancy and everything. You’re so young, and I’m ashamed of Bobby for letting you into all this mess with Ewing Oil.”

Jamie looked up. “Shady? I hardly call it shady, Mama. After what Daddy did to John Ross and me, I had every right to do it. It was simple really,” she said, hesitating for a moment when the waiter handed them their coffee. “I kept eavesdropping on Daddy to get tidbits of information on his whole scheme to take over Wes Star, and then I started going to Cliff Barnes.” She took a sip of her strong black coffee before continuing. “I told Cliff that he’d better take me seriously and that in exchange for the information, he’d teach me all about the oil business and how to play the oilman’s game. It went on for a while, but then Dusty Farlow came into the picture.”

Sue Ellen was taken aback. She couldn’t believe Dusty ad gotten himself involved in this, and it angered her to know that he let Jamie get involved as well. She thought he knew better than that, but then again, she wasn’t surprised–especially where JR was concerned. “Go on,” she said.

“I spotted him at a rodeo when I was having dinner with Cliff one day a while back, and we decided to recruit him into our little deal. We knew that he hated Daddy just as much as we did, and besides, we needed more money. Barnes-Wentworth wasn’t helping us enough. We all agreed that Cliff would get Wes Star and half of Ewing Oil. I wanted the other half, but since I wasn’t old enough to hold stock legally, I needed Dusty as a front. I told Dusty that I’d help him in some way, but being the nice gentleman that he is, he insisted that he’d give the other half to me and that nothing would satisfy him more knowing that the great JR Ewing was about to be fooled by his precocious daughter.” she smiled mischievously. Sue Ellen wasn’t pleased with her comment, but let her keep going.

“Well, our deal got a little sidetracked. When Uncle Bobby’s wife got murdered on their honeymoon in Europe, he got so depressed that he didn’t want to work for Ewing Oil anymore. He planned to sell his share of Ewing Oil, but Daddy wouldn’t have it and tried to set him up with other women to make him forget about April and get his mind back on track. By this time, Uncle Bobby started to see that Daddy didn’t even care that she died and was mortified that he was about to lose his precious company again, so he wanted to sell his shares to Cliff just for the hell of it, but after that whole mess with getting Daddy out of the sanitarium, he let it go...for a while. Then, he made the discovery about me and my dealings with Dusty and Cliff. He was mad about it at first, but then he saw that I was going through hell when I discovered that James was my half-brother, so he decided that he couldn’t take Daddy hurting me and the family anymore, and got himself involved into our deal...with some alterations. He helped Cliff get Wes Star all right, but only allowed him to get ten percent of Ewing Oil, and instead of letting Dusty help me get half of it, I got thirty percent instead. Uncle Bobby kept the rest of the sixty percent. I decided that it was better than nothing, and by this time, I discovered that I was pregnant. I was also getting tired of having to deal with all those new people in that house, so I told Bobby that after this whole ordeal was over with, I was going to have him run my thirty percent in my absence, until I finished my college education and sort things out. Besides, I was ready to leave Southfork and come here to be with you and John Ross.”

Sue Ellen sat back in anger and disbelief. She couldn’t believe that Jamie went through all this. It hadn’t been enough for JR–first it was marrying a young woman half his age, then a long-lost son named James, who Jamie had been hopelessly in love with, and then discovering that he was already married with a child of his own. She could only imagine the pain that Jamie went through–finding out that James was her half-brother, then discovering that he had a wife and a son, and to top that off, JR welcomed them with open arms and allowed them to move in at Southfork. JR had put her through hell enough, but to do this to Jamie and John Ross, his own children...it was unforgiveable.

She reached for Jamie’s hand across th table an took it in hers. “I’m so sorry for all the pain that your daddy’s caused. I’m glad that he got what he deserved, but I wish you hadn’t gotten involved in this whole thing with Cliff and Dusty.”

Jamie shrugged. “Well, we all wanted to get back at my daddy.”

Sue Ellen nodded. She knew full well what it was like to get revenge on JR, and she left Dallas thinking her revenge on him was complete when she blackmailed him into giving her custody of both Jamie and John Ross, but after hearing all this, she decided that it wasn’t over. Soon, very soon, she was going to take care of JR in a way that he’d never forget, and she was going to seize at the opportunity when it came. Right now, she was terribly worried about Jamie. She had obviously been out to get JR for a long time...

She thought back to JR’s wedding to Cally nearly two years ago. Even then, she knew it wouldn’t last, but she also knew her conniving daughter well. Clearly, she had been planning to get back at JR every since he married Cally. While it did seem amusing, she didn’t like that Jamie was so hellbent at getting revenge on JR. She was so young, and she should be out living her life like most people her age.

“You’ve been planning to get back at your daddy for a long time now haven’t you, Jamie?”

Jamie sighed. “You could say that. I’ve been at it ever since he married that Cally.”

“I had the feeling you did.”
“Can you blame me, Mama?” she asked. Sue Ellen said nothing. She coudln’t hold it against her, but she didn’t want to encourage her either.

Jamie’s mind drifted off to the past, and she recalled the day whe nDaddy married Cally...the day that she decided to get her revenge...

December 12, 1988

The crowd of people stood up and applauded as JR and his new wife exchanged their wedding vows. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a kiss. They both looked so happy as they held each other. They smiled as they looked at the photographer, who snapped pictures of them closely. Clayton and Miss Ellie approached them to welcome Cally into the family. JR walked away and continued to smile at everyone as he headed towards the table littered with food to get a drink, trying to maintain his image by looking happy. Everybody looked as if they were having a good time, except Jamie, Sue Ellen, and Lucy, who were all standing together watching them with contempt. Nine-year old John Ross sat nearby, looking visibly irritated and upset.

JR’s really making a spectacle of himself isn’t he?” Lucy said dryly.

Sue Ellen scoffed. “Of course he is. Cally has no idea what she’s gotten herself into, but maybe she will soon when he discovers that she’s not really pregnant.”

Lucy smiled. “And ho did she manage that–being the young, naive girl that she is?”

“Let’s just say that I’ve given her a little advice on how to handle JR–by being deceptive,” sue Ellen replied. “JR was onto me of course–he warned me to stay away from her.”

“Well, their marriage won’t last long. Starting today, I’m going to take care of Daddy’s new bride,” Jamie said, watching Cally darkly, her eyes blazing with hate. Lucy smirked. Even Sue Ellen had to smile at her comment. She hated that her children had to go through this fiasco of a wedding, and more than ever she hated the idea of them having a step-mother, especially now that she was leaving Dallas and moving to England with Don, but it comforted her to know that Jamie would be around to look after John Ross in her absence...and teach JR a lesson that he’d never forget.

She leaned forward to her ear and whispered, “Be careful, darling.”

Jamie smiled evilly. “Oh, I will,” she replied. “And I’m going to wipe that smile right off her face, starting right now.” she set her champagne glass down, sand sauntered over to Cally.

Lucy laughed sarcastically. “You have no idea what kind of family you’re marrying into, do you, Cally?” she muttered.

Sue Ellen folded her arms across her chest, smiling impishly as she watched Jamie.

Jamie grinned at Cally, who in turn, smiled back. “Well, Cally, welcome to the family.”

Cally was touched by her kind words. “Why, thank you Jamie. JR’s told me so much about you.”

Jamie raised an eyebrow, mildly insulted. ‘Daddy doesn’t know a damn thing about me, and neither do you’ she thought silently. She maintained her false smile. “Has he now?” She eyed the yellow roses adorned in her boutique. “Well, I’ll be....yellow roses. Now tell me, was that my daddy’s idea?” the whole place is littered with them!” she exclaimed.

Cally blushed. “Oh it was your daddy’s idea. You see, he–“

“Daddy’s idea,” she said, cutting her off. “Now isn’t that funny–my daddy did the same thing when he married my mama...twice.”

Cally felt the smile drain from her face. JR hadn’t told her this.

“Oh didn’t Daddy tell you that?” she put a hand to her cheek, feigning a mock surprise. “I’m actually surprised myself. Daddy always got my mama a yellow rose when he was courting her. In fact, he used to call her his ‘Yellow Rose of Texas.’ Cally’s eyes widened in surprise.

“Oh, don’t get upset,” Jamie said patting her on the shoulder. “It’s not healthy to live in the past. Anyway, enjoy your wedding day. Congratulations.” she gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and walked off, leaving Cally standing there in utter disbelief.

Lucy and Sue Ellen watched with amusement as they saw the change in Cally’s facial expression. Jamie approached them grinning, her head arrogantly high. She picked up her champagne glass. They saw JR walk back to Cally, and he tried to kiss her but she pulled away and instead walked off to talk to some wedding guests, leaving him wit ha a confused look on his face.

“So what’d you tell her to get her all riled up like that?” Lucy asked.

Jamie looked at Sue Ellen and said, “Oh, something about the yellow roses.” Lucy and Sue Ellen both got the hint, and began to laugh.

Jamie held up her glass. “Cheers,” she said and gulped down the remaining contents of her drink.

Sue Ellen looked guilty. “I remember, Jamie, and I’m ashamed of myself for encouraging you. I shouldn’t have gotten you involved in this whole mess between JR and me.” Despite the things that had happened between them, the last thing she wanted was to turn her own children against JR. No matter what happened, he would always be their father, and she didn’t want to exclude him from their lives. Growing up without a father wasn’t easy–she of all people knew that, and she didn’t want to make it any harder for them than it already was.

Jamie frowned. “Don’t blame yourself, Mama. Daddy had it coming, and we know it. John Ross knows it too.” She hesitated a moment before continuing. “Daddy...hurt me a long time ago...before James, before Cally and Vanessa, even before the last divorce. I started to see him for what he really was and what his real priorities were...and al of the things that happened after that...well, it just added to that hurt, and I don’t think I can ever forgive him.”

Sue Ellen looked at her sadly. It pained her knowing that Jamie had such a difficult life. She wished she could have done better to shield her from the bitterness and endless quarreling between her and JR, but she couldn’t.

“I know honey, and I wish there was something I could do to take away all those years of pain and hurt that you’ve gone through. Nothing pains me more than to see my little girl hurt.”

Jamie smiled ruefully. “I’m not a little girl anymore, Mama,” she reminded her gently.

“I know you’re not, Jamie, but you’ll always be my little girl anyhow,” she replied lovingly.

Her comment cheered her up some. “Well, let’s order. I’m starved.” Sue Ellen chuckled. “Of course you are honey...especially now that you’ve got two mouths to feed instead of one.”

She patted her stomach. “Yes, I do...and Daddy doesn’t know. I intend to keep it that way for the time being.” Sue Ellen looked pleased. “We will, darling. Your secret is safe with me.” ‘And I’ll make damn sure of that when I get even with you, JR’ she thought silently to herself.

They both continued to talk as they ordered their lunch, both equally unaware of the dark-haired man that was sitting near them at another table, close enough to be within earshot. He leaned back in his chair, holding up the daily newspaper, pretending to look interested in what he was reading...
